(Sponsored) On September 26, cannabis professionals from across Europe gathered in Vienna for an exclusive Propagation Masterclass hosted by Fluence a leading global provider of energy-efficient LED lighting solutions for commercial cannabis production. The event was hosted at Flowery Field, Austria’s oldest commercial cannabis cloning facility. Organized by Franz Josef Sima, Cannabis Research & Plant Specialist and Theo Tekstra, Business Development Manager EMEA at Fluence, the event brought together both long-standing customers and new partners eager to deepen their expertise in one of the most critical stages of cannabis cultivation.
A Gathering of European Cultivation Leaders
The masterclass was an invite-only event, with 50 invitations extended and nearly half accepted within a week—underscoring the demand for specialized knowledge. Attendees traveled from across Europe, including Portugal, Tenerife, Macedonia, Malta, the UK, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark.
The evening before the workshop, Fluence welcomed participants with a relaxed networking session, setting the stage for a day of immersive learning.
From HPS to LED: A Lighting Evolution
Both hosts share a personal connection with Flowery Field. Franz began his cannabis career at the facility in 2011, while Theo has been a trusted partner for over 15 years, supporting its lighting strategy. Together, they have witnessed Flowery Field’s journey through multiple lighting technologies—from HPS to CMH, plasma, and ultimately to Fluence’s LED lighting systems.
This progression has had a measurable impact on productivity and plant quality. The cycle time for cutting clones from mother plants has been reduced from 14 to 10 days, improving overall performance and production efficiency by 28%. At the same time, tissue culture plants now root within just 7 days under Fluence’s RAZRM system, compared to 14 days under traditional fluorescent lights. “Our goal has always been to create better plants with reliable and efficient technology,” noted Alexander Klima, Founder and CEO of Flowery Field.

The workshop unfolded in four dynamic blocks. The morning began with a theoretical session, where Franz detailed the procedures Flowery Field has refined for pharmaceutical-grade cultivation. Attendees learned the intricacies of the gearwheel process for cloning and mother plant maintenance—practices that have become foundational for many Fluence customers.
Next, the group experienced guided facility tours. Theo led participants through Flowery Field’s cannabinoid testing and PCR laboratories, as well as its tissue culture production facilities. Simultaneously, Franz guided attendees through the mother plant production and cloning rooms, before swapping groups. “It’s important to keep groups small to ensure clarity and give participants the attention they need for questions,” explained Theo, drawing on his extensive training experience.
A Collaborative Spirit
Adding to the workshop’s impact, Greenkeepers Leipzig, a German social club and Fluence customer, joined the event to film exclusive interviews with CEO Alexander Klima. Their content— including YouTube videos, shorts, and Instagram reels— will soon bring the workshop’s spirit to a wider audience.
The afternoon was divided into two parts: a theoretical block, where Franz discussed mother plant architecture and maintenance, followed by a practical block led by the Flowery Field team, featuring live demonstrations of clone cutting and plant maintenance techniques. Each attendee later received a digital copy of the presentation and procedures via email, allowing them to apply the insights and techniques within their own facilities.

Looking Ahead
The masterclass wasn’t just a technical deep dive—it was a celebration of knowledge-sharing within the cannabis cultivation community. “The spirit of the event was to give participants insight into a fully operational cloning facility—the very heart of any licensed production site,” Franz reflected.
Participants also praised the event’s atmosphere and knowledge-sharing spirit:
“I was particularly impressed by the level of professionalism of all those involved and also by the sharing of experiences and knowledge among everyone.”
“Insights into commercial cloning SOPs, the team approach, and the split into theoretical and practical modules made the workshop highly effective.”
Fluence has already announced plans to continue hosting masterclasses across its customer base, creating new opportunities for knowledge exchange and strengthening the ecosystem of cannabis pioneers in Europe and beyond.
